I arrived atthe venue about 30mins before time and had to wait an extra 10mins beforeFletcher came out of the exam room. He thenwelcomed me, introduced himself and another lady sitting in the room observing,gave me a safety briefing, and went through my documents. He then askedme what kind of ships I had been on and my trade routes. Questions heasked, Took me to thewindow and asked me the direction of swell and force by looking at the compassrose. I was asked totake the pressure with the PAB asked about the errors and what I could use thereadings for. Magneticcompass- what the bowl was made of, its content, talked him through thecorrectors. Hydrometer-how to use it and what to do with the readings. Sextant- toldme to take the reading and talk about side error and correction. I was thenasked to sit down. Otherquestions included, My knowledgeabout ISPS code. Duties of asafety officer. Duties of a securityofficer. Duties of anOOW. Mooringoperation. Checks prior to and things I would ensure and look out for duringthe operation. What annexesof MARPOL applied to my ship. (LNG carrier). How SECA wouldaffect my passage plan. I was asked totalk through passage planning steps. Fire in themanifold and asked for my actions in order of priority.

(Refer to Guptas CD and it should cover99 percent of all you need for situations lights and shapes) Practice buoys, Lights and shapes. Don’t lie tothe examiner no matter how tempted you are.
