Hey Vinal

As far as I remember this is how my orals went

Raman Bala

Started with TSS, he had on his computer 2 seperate incidents from Dover TSS, it was as seen from the VTS radar screen and was played to me. He asked me to watch carefully as the situation unfolded. Cant remember exactly the situations but it was a vsl clearly not abiding by the rules and crossing at some crazy angle and cutting accross traffic that it should have given way to. In both sitautions the stand on vsls had to take action. He just wanted to know in general what was happening, who was give way to who and what was wrong.

Told me after this the importance of Rule of the Road and why it needs to be 100%

Duties of chief Officer, he wrote these down on a piece of paper as I said them

Your on a passenger ship but it has derricks as you load mail and it also has a Hatch system what as Chief Officer would you do as regards planned maintenance, just rattled of all the checks I would do to the hold, mentioned fire fighting equipment at some point and the asked checks to be made to fixed CO2 system. I said on my vsl the Chief Engineer is responsible for this, check condition of bottle etc for corrosion, dates. Inspect the heads on the release, check pressure gauge, told him they were serviced ashore annually. He asked if there would be anything elso told him about the audio and visual Alarm and testing of this.

Asked a vague question on stability: What stability as Chief Officer would you be interested in. Thought for a moment and then started talking about load dis - Light Dis to give dwt minus comditites to get cargo to load. To be aware that you dont overload marks, be aware of UKC and load line zones, mentioned briefly wind heeling on a pax ship. Apart from GM 0.15 min I didnt say anything about the criteria ie area under GZ curve or anything

Difference improvement and Prohibition notice - Mentioned Port State

On my ship, over 15yrs old going to spain what as master do you need to be aware of. Said Mandtory expanded survey - inform 3 days before use.

He asked if I would prepare anything, I said i would look at venting tanks so they would be ready for inspection.

Precations for enclosed space entry

Berthing a ship against tide on own ship as master wanted me to berth inside a lock So i berthed port side too with use of twin screw engine and bow thruster and made fast. Manoeverd the ship around into posn using mooring lines. Exactly as you showed me.

Enlosed Space entry procedures

On to Rules various situations but mostly all in a TSS even the resticted Vis. Told me he was not here to trick me. All standard situations mostly only one other target.

Lights from his cards only about four wanted everything except action to be taken. All stanard lights, vsl aground, pursine fishing, CBD, Trawler.

3 buoys out bound region A heading west only wanted action - Stbd hand mark, Pref Channel stbd and south cardinal.

Pass, all done in around 35-40 mins.
