DATE: 17/01/2011


 

 

1. You are joining as a first time chief mate onboard, what information company will provide you in briefing at office and what information you want to collect from the company at that time.

 

2. Now you joined the ship, how you take over from the outgoing chief officer.

 

3. In sailing , 2030 hrs, 3rd mate reported that water coming out of NO-01 DB TANK. (ACTION as a mate).

 

4. Now , water reported in NO 01 HOLD BILGES as well and continuously increasing.

 

NOTE: In case 3 & 4 after checking soundings of all tanks , actually he wants the action in case of flooding onboard. (damage stability criteria/ booklet/ inform MAIB).

 

5. You have new 2nd mate on board in discharging port ,first time on container ships. What all instructions you want to give him as chief mate reagarding discharging cargo operations. (bullet pt: provide c/off instructons in conjunction with master standing orders).

 

6. You have to load 30 containers onboard (40 ftrs loaded, no dg,no reefer) with yourself planning onboard,there is no planner available outside. Tell the loading procedures and criteria . (loading procedure for containers including stresses).

 

7. what are shearing forces ,bending moments,tortional forces .

 

8. what is condition of assignment. (regarding freeboard/MSN 1752)

 

9. What are the information given in dry dock plan.

 

10. What all preparation and procedure for drydocing . (included p force, critical period/instant/can u enter with 1 m trim in drydock/all explanation regarding stability.)

 

11. Latest amendments regarding NIR for psc inspections (MIN 380).

 

12. You have intermediate survey of SMC, procedure and preparation.

 

13. In sailing at 0300 hrs, 2nd mate reported ship listed to 3 deg to stbd, tell what action as chief mate . ( angle of loll situation).

 

14. Passage plan of ship from USA TO GIBRALTOR, what information will 2nd mate will provide to c/off and what information c/off will give to 2/nd off.

 

15. Berthing of ship : stbd side , inbetween of two ships with onshore winds and tide from right ahead.

 

16. During loading of cargo, how you approach for your cargo lashing .( cargo securing manual full details required).

 

17. On arrival at berth what are points to be considered for a safety of stevedores. (ship shore safety checklist all points).

 

 

ROR SITUATIONS:

 

IN OPEN SEA: YOU ARE ON PDV.

 

1. Pdv crossing from port to stbd.

2. Pdv coming down right ahead.

3. V/l with one diamond on her and one on her aft vsl , crossing port to stbd (he asked for the length of the tow as well.)

4. NUC on my stbd quarter, speed more than your vessel.

 

IN TSS : YOU ARE ON CBD.

 

1. F/vl crossing stbd to port.

2. PDV crossing stbd to port.

3 what are the vessels which can use inshore traffic zone.

 

RESTRICTED VISSIBILITY:

 

1. Gave me a radar plotting sheet,on which two targets are plotted with their datawritten on the sheet including my vessel data as well. Action and justification for all the targets.

 

2. What is safe speed (rule 6 and visual and radar criteria ).

 

LIGHTS:

 

1. RED LIGHT ONLY. (S/VL)

2. V/L AGROUND LIGHT MORE THAN 50 M.

FINALLY HE GIVE 5 BUOYS…JUS TAKE THE SHIP OUT, ONE BY ONE …NO EXPLANATION OF BUOYS.
