NAME - ANKIT CHAUDHARY

SURVEYOR – Capt VINOD RANGANATHAN

FORT MATILDA

TIME – 1045 to 1145HRS.

RESULT – PASS

As I entered in the examination room, i was asked to show my documents, types of vessels I have done and my last ship.

Instruments:

• Started with the sextant :-

 Explain all parts.

 Error in perpendicularity, how to adjust it.

 How to take a sight.

• Stevenson screen, use of Stevenson screen and how to calculate dew point.

 

• Started with the generals:

 

 As a second officer how will you join a ship.

 How you will come to know that your charts and publications are up to date, than as I was answering him than he told me specifically explain how to correct sailing directions.

 What all fire fighting equipments you had on your last ship.

 GMDSS daily tests

 GMDSS monthly test

 As a second officer how does ISM affects you

 Amendments to ISM

 Then shifted to emergencies: As a second mate on bridge navigating in coastal waters suddenly there’s a main engine failure, Action?

 As a second mate on ship, open sea i am sleeping in my cabin and fire alarm goes off, fire in galley, Action (as am incharge of back up party)

• Than started with buoyage:

 I got a Region A outbound heading EAST,

 While navigating identify the buoy.

• Smarty board:

 Fishing trawler seen from starboard side

 Vessel restricted in her ability to manoeuvre underway

 Vessel engaged in mine clearance operation

 Vessel aground

 

• ROR situation: (OPEN SEA)

 Power driven vessel head on.

 Power driven vessel crossing port to starboard.

 Sailing vessel crossing

 Then I was placed on CBD in and sailing vessel RAM crossing stbd to port

 

• Situation : (NARROW CHANNEL)

 A was on PDV overtaking a fishing vessel (My action was to reduce speed and avoid overtaking in narrow channel).

• Restricted visibility:

 He asked to take him what is OA – relative approach line.

 Than a target on my starboard bow crossing – ( Bold alteration of course to stbd)

 He kept a plot very fine on starboard bow ( I i confirmed with the surveyor that is it on my starboard bow, he replied yes.) – Action was bold alteration of course to port.

 

OVERALL I LIKE TO ADD SOMETHING BEFORE WE END THIS. THERE IS A PERSON BEHINID MY SUCESS .ITS NONE OTHER THAN CAPT. VINIL GUPTA TO WHOSE GRACE AND GUIDENCE THAT HAS ELEVATED TO THE POSITION I AM HERE TODAY.
